The Nigeria Wrestling Federation has said three of the country’s female freestyle wrestlers will compete at the Beat the Streets wrestling event in New York on the invitation of the United States Wrestling Federation.
The one-day event, which is scheduled to take place in New York City, holds on May 17.
The NWF said the wrestlers would be from the 55kg, 57kg and 59kg weight classes, adding that they would be accompanied by a coach and a team leader. The federation said the logistics for the competition would be taken care of by the organisers of the tournament.
“This is a great opportunity for your strong federation to showcase goodwill event with the United States while at the same time promoting the sport of wrestling,” the invitation letter sent to the NWF read in part.
“As our sport moves forward, it is still very important that the wrestling world powers continue to unite and show growth to the International Olympic Committee and this event is the perfect opportunity to help support wrestling on both a grassroots and international level.
“Furthermore, we will make sure to make your stay in New York City as comfortable and memorable as possible.”
Nigeria’s wrestlers are expected to arrive in New York for the event on May 14 and depart on May 18.
