The most common cause of lower back pain is due to mechanical issues – the way the body moves – said nutritionist Dr Josh Axe.

Mechanical back pain could be treated through lower back exercises, he said.

Rehabilitative exercises, stretching and strengthening can drastically reduce the presence of lower back pain.

It’s important to build up slowly to lower back exercises, he said. Be mindful of any pain you experience, and never work through pain.

But, this exercise could help to relieve the condition.

“Almost any exercises can train your core and lower back muscles,” said Axe.

“The key is to perform each exercise with good posture and a tight core to reinforce good habits and increase the effectiveness of each movement.”

The Arch Hold exercise could help to reduce back pain.

Begin by lying flat on the floor, on your belly.

Stretch out your legs, and extend your arms overhead.

Lift your legs and chest slowly, to create a banana shape with your body.

While keeping in the same position, extend your biceps out to your ears.

“Squeeze your butt to create strength and tension along the back body,” said Axe.

“Hold this position for 30 seconds, rest and then repeat two to three more times.”

Back pain is very common, and improves within a few weeks or months, said the NHS.

In most cases, the pain isn’t anything to worry about, and isn’t caused by anything serious.

To reduce back pain, take anti-inflammatory painkillers.

Hot or cold compresses could relieve pain in the short-term. A hot water bottle or bag of frozen peas could provide similar relief.
