A young Gambian author Raki Jalow has launched her new book titled Sallymata The book.
The theme of the book is ‘determination’ and it was reviewed by Mr Hamadi Secka.
The book talks about a young girl named Sallymata who vows to emerge successful, no matter what serves as an obstacle on her way.
She later met one Tijan whose fine features were very magnetising, but the nature Sallymata was not a seller or an idle girl to be messed about by useless boys.
Having detected that was out to foil her dreams and lucrative plans, she immediately laid the future for herself and dumps Tijan,; a remorse and bitter lump of the pain settled in the her heart, not knowing that the future was all of hers.
In an interview with The Point, Raki Jallow revealed that young girls should venture into reading to be exposed to ideas to have enough information to write stories.
She indicated that stories are meant to be told and not to be kept untold, saying, “when you write, try to publish if not you will perish.” she noted.
Raki challenged young girls to focus more on their education, noting that education is the key to success.
Born in 1989 in Njawara village, North Bank Region, Raki Jallow did her Higher Teacher’s Certificate at The Gambia College. She is currently pursuing a degree at the University of The Gambia. “Sallymata” is her first novel.
