Drinking tea and coffee is considered part of a balanced diet, but drinking too much can increase your blood pressure, according to the NHS.
The health body states: “Drinking more than four cups of coffee a day may increase your blood pressure.
“If you’re a big dan of coffee, tea or other caffeine-rich drinks, such as cola and some energy drinks, consider cutting down.
“It’s fine to drink tea and coffee as part of a balanced diet, but it’s important that these drinks are not your main or only source of fluid.”
What should your blood pressure measure?
Blood pressure is recorded in two numbers – the systolic pressure and the diastolic pressure.
The systolic pressure is the higher number and indicates the force your heart pumps blood around the body.
The diastolic pressure is the lower number and is the resistance to the blood flow in the blood vessels.
Both numbers are measured in millimetres of mercury (mmHg).
