England knocked Colombia out of the World Cup on Tuesday after amazingly beating the team on penalties – their first EVER penalty shootout victory in World Cup History.

It was their first knockout victory in a World Cup for 12 years, and only their seventh in any major tournament since back in 1996.

And as crowds across the country began celebrating deep into the night, Prince William himself decided to take the time to praise the incredible team on their win.

“I couldn’t be prouder of @england – a victory in a penalty shootout!” Kate Middleton’s husband wrote.

“You have well and truly earned your place in the final eight of the #worldcup and you should know the whole country is right behind you for Saturday!”

He finished his statement off with: “Come on England! W.”

And fans were quick to comment on the victory message, with one simply screaming: “IT’S COMING HOME”.

“It’s coming home. And again I say, it’s coming home!!! Come on England #ThreeLions #WorldCup,” another wrote, while a third said: “Get in there William and get in there England!”

Gary Lineker hilariously added: “So that’s what it feels like.”

Thousands of fans at the Spartak Stadium in Moscow – as well as millions in pubs across the UK – went nothing short of wild in celebration as they witnessed the historical moment.

Neither team was able to score in the added 30 minutes extra time, and a penalty shootout followed.

But luckily the lads pulled through – and are now heading head to the next stage of the tournament.
