After England’s devastating loss in the World Cup, celebrities have taken to Twitter to share their heartbreak over the end of the country’s World Cup campaign, as well as congratulate the team on their efforts. 

Prince William wrote on Twitter through the Kensington Palace account: “I know how disappointed @England must feel right now but I couldn’t be more proud of this team and you should hold your heads high. You’ve had an incredible #WorldCup, made history, and gave us fans something to believe in. We know there is more to come from this @England team. W.”

Cheryl wrote: “We still changed the history of the past 28 years. I’m proud of how far we came and proud of Gareth Southgate. Congrats boys.”

Piers Morgan said: “OK, I’ve stopped wailing. Gareth Southgate & his young England team did the country proud. We went a lot further than I thought we would & performed with great credit on & off the pitch. Losing sucks but the future looks very exciting with this talented group of players. End.”

Take Me Out host Paddy McGuiness said: “Deeply upset but what a World Cup campaign @England have given us. Well done boys, it was great while it lasted. I’m now off to smash and break a few things. #ENGCRO #WorldCup #England.”
