RIVERS State Governor Nyesom Wike has been nominated for the International Sports Press Association-Africa’s Africa Power of Power Award.
In a nomination letter to the governor, President AIPS Africa, Mitchell Obi, said the body decided to honour Wike because of his contribution to sports development on the continent.
A statement by the Special Assistant to the Governor on Electronic Media, Mr. Simeon Nwakaudu, said AIPS Africa also recognised the governor for using sports to engage African youths.
Wike is expected to be decorated on May 8 and 9 in Brussels, Belgium.
The statement quoted the letter as saying, “The decoration of this badge of honour will take place at the continental meeting in Brussels on the 8th/9th of May 2018.”
AIPS Africa also stated that Wike would be expected to deliver a lecture on the topic; ‘Peace and Progress through Sports in the Niger Delta Region of Nigeria’ to the full house of the 94-year-old International Sports Press Association comprising no fewer than 108 countries.
