Kate Middleton, the Queen and now Meghan Markle, as members of the royal family, are required to follow strict fashion rules.
Everyone knows about the tights rule, the no coloured nail polish rule and the royal jewels rule, but not many people are aware about the coat rule.
You may not have noticed it until now, but Prince William’s wife, Prince Harry’s bride-to-be and the 91 year old monarch never remove their coats in public.
Why? Because reportedly it is deemed unladylike to undress in public.
If Kate or another of the royal women attend an official engagement, they will usually show up in a coat.
However, the next pictures you see will be from the engagement, revealing the outfit underneath – with no coat reveal.

And even Meghan Markle, who is soon to become an official member of the royal family, has been standing by this rule, even though the Suits actress has already broken a few.
During her last two engagements with husband-to-be Harry, Meghan broke Kate’s no-buns rule with her hairstyle, deemed ‘messy’ by some.
Even for her engagement photoshoot, Meghan made the decision to go bare-legged in a knee length white coat, even though the Queen prefers women to always wear tights.
Meghan will also have to get used to the Queen’s footwear rule, which forbids Kate or herself from wearing a specific type of shoe – find out what it is here.
