President of the Badminton Federation of Nigeria Francis Orbih has said Africa’s number one-ranked female badminton player Dorcas Adesokan will be going on a training tour of Europe courtesy of the Badminton Confederation of Africa as part of the “Road to Tokyo Olympics Programme”.
Orbih told our correspondent on the telephone on Wednesday that the Ogun State-born player would be on the tour with other players on the continent.
He said the date for the tour had yet to be fixed by the African governing body, adding that the player would gather ranking points during the tour.
Adesokan, who is currently in camp along with 15 other players in Katsina for the Algeria International Championships in February, is expected to go on the tour with a Nigerian umpire.
Orbih said, “The African body chose her because they believed that she can go far at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. There are two Nigerians in the programme to develop African players ahead of the Games. Clement Krobakpor is the other Nigerian.
“Apart from Dorcas, the BCA will sponsor a Nigerian umpire for a workshop in Europe during the tour. The BFN is committed to ensuring that athletes, coaches and technical officials develop adequately according to the modern trends in the sport.”
