Strictly Come Dancing is back on our screens, which means spandex, sequins are sparkles are back in our lives right up until Christmas.

While we’ve been admiring the elegant outfits of presenters Claudia Winkleman and Tess Daly, we’ve also been fixated with the wild and wacky dancing costumes of this year’s celebrities 

But looking deeper into the wardrobe secrets behind the BBC One dance show, the costumes adored by the likes of Mollie King, Ruth Langsford and Davood Ghadami only get more intriguing…

1. Secret bra trick

Ever wonder how the ladies avoid wardrobe malfunction while being flipped around in tiny outfits?

Thankfully, costume designer Vicky Gill has a few tricks up her sleeve. 

The talent uses built in bras, romper suits and angled straps to ensure the ladies are well strapped in. 

2. Dazzling designs

Considering how many costumes they get through, it would be understandable to assume they’re all bought from a manufacturers somewhere, with just a few glitz and glam details added. 

In fact, costume designer Vicky Gill designs all 400 of the costumes worn throughout the series. 

3. Shirts or… Leotards?

Believe it or not, leotards is the answer.

To keep the men on the show looking sharp, be it professional dancers like Anton Du Beke or celeb contestants such as dad-to-be Aston Merrygold, the men wear leotards disguised as shirts for a seamless finish. Very sneaky. 

4. Second hand suits

Ever wondered what happens to the fancy frocks once they’ve taken on the foxtrot?

The pre-loved dresses from the show, are passed on to dance companies and retailers so they can be used again. After all, it would be a shame to see all those sequins go to waste.
