A six-year-old player, Adejuwon Ogunsakin,  at the  49th Asoju Oba Table Tennis Championships  at the Teslim Balogun Stadium in Lagos on Monday  dazzled fans with his performance in the competition’s cadet category, the News Agency of Nigeria reports.

Ogunsakin defeated 12-year-old Samyak Sharam of Indian Language School in Lagos 2-0, displaying good skills in her rallies and use of forehand and backhand.

NAN  reports that Sharam succumbed to the powerful rallies of Ogunsakin,  who is the youngest player in the  championships.

Ogunsakin,  who dominated the game all through the cadet boys singles,  told NAN that it was his  first time of taking part in any major championship.

“I am happy with the victory and I want to play and win more matches in the competition,’’ he said.

The player said he started playing table tennis earlier this year at the Adura Table Tennis Hall in Sango Ota.

He said, “I developed interest in playing table tennis, watching Azeez Solanke and other players who  trained at the  hall during the weekends.

“I want to play like Solanke and other big stars in the nearest future.”

Meanwhile, in some of the matches played on Tuesday, Akanbi Rilwan defeated Ololade Oyenekan 3-0, while Azeez Solanke defeated Ishiaka Balogun in the men’s singles.

NAN reports that 336 players are taking part in the championships.
