Pulse Music: 10 new songs you need to hear this week

Away from the bright lights of pop stars, there’s a healthy dose of music coming out of Nigeria. Every week, Pulse brings you the other side of the culture that you barely see. We’re scratching the underbelly of Nigerian creativity for this one.

1. Atela – ‘Jankara’

Talented Squeeze Records artiste, Francis Atela popularly called Atela by fans teams up with ace Director, Clarence Peters for his new video entitled Jankara.

Jakara, a colourful retro-themed video was shot in Lagos and is officially released online and for broadcast on major music video channels.

The hot new song is produced by fast-rising producer, Fome Peters who combines well with the singer to deliver a tune that will excite music lovers.


2. Eclipse – ‘I need you’

Whilst his fans continue to eagerly await his debut body of work, Everything Pretty, the self acclaimed Pretty Boy addresses issues facing youths & Nigerians in general. In usual Pretty Boy fashion, D-O creates an eclectic and unique sonic crafted by a mix of geniuses, namely July Drama, Tomi Thomas & B Banks of YBNL.

3. Emma Nyra – ‘Jamina’ ft Harmonize

Emma Nyra is very excited to share new single, her 2018 first single and her first international collaboration with East Africa’s Tanzanian superstar, Harmonize.

4. Idyl – ‘Better love’

Better Love is a mid-tempo song that features traditional Yoruba percussion sounds. It is a love song that sees Idyl use his appealing voice to gain the love of a woman.

5. Davina Oriakhi – ‘Lagos’ ft Tim Lyre

Lagos is an Afro-soul ode to a long distance lover who resides (as the title implies) in Lagos. Her soulful vocals bleed her frustrations of being “overseas”, far away from her lover, with world-influenced enchanting harmonies on quirky and somewhat earthy and muddy sounds.

6. Veedee Gambo – ‘Port Harcourt (Rep it)’

One half of Ijaw Boyz Entertainment team up with London-based producer and  2-time Grammy Award winning sound engineer to produce a song titled “Port Harcourt”

7. Pierrette Adams – Sauté Sauté ft Flavour

Queen and face of Ivory Coast music scene Pierrette Adams is out with this lovely song title “Saute Saute” featuring Nigerian finest Mr Flavour, “Saute Saute” is a complete superlative African tune with nice rhythm that would get you into dancing mood,

8. J’Dess – ‘I like it’

J’Dess (Joy Ebiem) releases her cover of the evergreen song One Naira, originally written and performed by the amazing M.I featuring Vocal Sensation, Waje. This cover was produced by DAkinson and Wilson.

9. Phrance – ‘Where you go’

After the release of “This Love” late last year, Phrance is starting this year 2018 with a letter to God expressing the eternal love of the father. His presence is where we are meant to be and we can only remain in his love for us. Where you go, where you dey, is where we want to be.

10. Phenomenon – ‘4am at 4Point’

Trick Billionaire Musiq act Phenomenom who needs no introduction, pours out his heart on this new Hip-hop cut.
