Nigerian Police say they are aiming  to return to the glory days in sports  through the construction of  a modern sports secretariat complex in Abuja.

The police emerged as the overall winners of  the  just-concluded One Man One Medal Games with  108 gold, 68 silver and 37 bronze.

The OMOM Games featured teams from the military and para-military organisations in the country.

In a statement,  Police Sports Officer Aliyu Abubakar, a Deputy Commissioner of Police, said  the complex, which  foundation stone-laying ceremony comes up on December 21,  would  be  built   opposite the Force Headquarters in Abuja.

He said the Inspector-General of Police Idris Ibrahim was in support of the project, adding that the president of the Nigeria Polo Federation Francis Ogboro would  play a major  role in the project.
