Heartbeat and Blackadder actor Peter Benson has died at the age of 75, his agent has confirmed.
The actor, who was best known for his role as Bernie Scripps in the ITV series of Heartbeat, passed away on Thursday following a short illness.
He also played Henry VII in BBC comedy Blackadder and recently appeared in hospital drama Casualty.
His former Heartbeat co-star Steven Blakeley, who starred as PC Geoff Younger on the show, lead the tributes to the actor.
“Farewell Peter Benson. You made me laugh so much. There’ll never be another like you – talented,kind&gentle in equal measure. Bless you&rest well sir,” he tweeted.
Lisa Kay, who also starred on the show as Jackie Bradley, added: “What sad news. Peter Benson was one of the best.
“Kind, funny, brilliant, gentle and deliciously sarcastic. He was an absolute joy to work with and will be missed by so many.”
The actor appeared on Heartbeat between 1995 and 2010.
He also starred on shows such as A Touch of Frost, Doctor Who in the serial Terminus, and Albion Market.
Heartbeat ran until 2010 and was one of ITV’s top-rated dramas at the time, drawing about 14 million viewers in the first series.
