Obuh gets three matches to save Kwara job

Organisers of the  2nd Akwa Ibom State Youth Sports Festival say teams are gearing up  for the event scheduled to hold  in Uyo from March 5 to  10.

Governor Udom Emmanuel, who is the originator of the Games,  is expected  to declare  the competition open  alongside sports minister Solomon Dalung and other personalities from within and outside the state.

The Festival Torch,  which  has been going round  the 31  Local Government Areas  of  the state,  was received in Onna Local Government Area  by  the  chairman Imo Atat on Monday.

Atat, who commended Emmanuel for the festival,   said he was delighted to be part of a competition that had helped in discovering hidden talents for the country.

Meanwhile, the  draw ceremony to officially herald the festival  will be held at the Civil Service Auditorium in Uyo on Thursday, according to the Commissioner for Youth and Sports  Monday Uko.

He said,  “His Excellency has approved cash awards for the  local government areas who stand to cart home N10m, N5m and N2m respectively to help develop sports infrastructure in their local government councils.”

Uko said  over 12,000 athletes from primary and secondary schools and 500 officials are set to compete in the 20-sport event.

Oruk Anam LGA are  the defending champions.
