NFF signs three-year deal with Cadbury

The Nigeria Football Federation on Friday signed a three-year partnership deal with Cadbury Nigeria Plc to make one of their brands TomTom the official candy of the Super Eagles.

At a press conference in Lagos to announce the deal, Managing Director, Cadbury Nigeria Plc, Amir Shamsi, said the company decided to extend their partnership with the NFF because both brands shared the same values.

He said, “We are delighted to announce TomTom as the official candy of the Super Eagles. This year makes it the 10th year since we first announced this valued partnership in 2008. We are proud to say our partnership with the Nigeria Football Federation and by extension the Super Eagles is not a coincidence. It remains a deliberate effort by Cadbury and TomTom to connect with Nigerians and their passion for the beautiful game.

“We promise to continuously support the Super Eagles and seize this opportunity to enjoin Nigerians to give their full support to the team. TomTom believes in the Super Eagles and Nigerians too should believe in the Super Eagles – they are poised to make us proud.”

NFF President Amaju Pinnick said the partnership was part of efforts of the federation to ensure that the country’s football continues to develop.

“This partnership is another page in the achievements of the NFF in recent times. It has shown that the Eagles are a super brand and as such they are attracting super brands as well. We are grateful to TomTom for being a backbone of all our national teams,” he said.

“The NFF is working to ensure that everything we planned for the World Cup to go without hiccups are achieved and we are still working on raising the $ 2.8m needed for the tournament. We don’t want to wait for the FIFA money to arrive. We believe that if the team get what they need, they can focus on the task ahead and bring success to the country.”

Cadbury’s Category Marketing Lead, West Africa, Mrs. Uwadiae Chidinma, said, “TomTom is a Candy with a purpose. It delivers soothing relief and mental invigoration. It has remained relevant over the decades despite other competitive offerings in the market. TomTom is undisputedly one of the most ubiquitous brands in the country.”
