The Minister of early life and sports activities, Solomon Dalung, the day before today slammed the nationwide Stadium, Surulere, Lagos describing it as a national embarrassment.

The minister said this in Lagos, after he inspected the edifice with the Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode on why the edifice should be transferred to the Lagos state government.

The Minister lamented the negative state of the sports activities complex, once the satisfaction of the nation.

“The national stadium which was considered a monument of our nationwide historical past has turn out to be a national embarrassment. it is in an awfully sorry state as the level of dilapidation can never be compared to our level of civilisation.

“for this reason I welcome the decision of the Lagos State executive to step in to revive our nationwide pride and convey it back to a state we all may also be pleased with.”

Governor Ambode on his section thanked President Mohammadu Buhari who has authorized the takeover including that it was consistent with federal executive’s resolution on the Ahmadu Bello Stadium which has been handed over to the Kaduna State govt, the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium surpassed over to Enugu State executive and the UJ Esuene Stadium Calabar which has been given to the move River State govt.

“we will’t fold our arms and watch this monument proceed to rot away. We intend to renovate the stadium services and produce it back to its high position as sports metropolis where other sports can be developed.

“I promised Lagosians all through my electioneering campaigns that i will use sports, tourism, leisure and arts to increase the GDP of Lagos and we’ve got no longer shifted from that stance,” Ambode concluded.
