Actress and director, Nia Vardalos is splitting from her partner, Ian Gomez after 25 years of marriage.
The My Big Fat Greek Wedding writer – whose own wedding to a non-Greek had even partially inspired the famous film – cited “irreconcilable differences” as the reason her marriage had ended.
They released a statement on Wednesday confirming the news, as they told USA Today: “We’ve been respectfully separated for a lengthy period of time.
“Our relationship became a friendship so the decision to end the marriage is completely mutual and amicable.
“It is our hope that decency will prevail on the reporting of this story which will soon be yesterday’s news.”
They added: “Thank you for respecting our privacy.”

Nia and Ian tied the knot in 1993, and have appeared alongside each other in many films, including My Big Fat Greek Wedding and I Hate Valentine’s Day.
They even co-hosted cooking series The Great American Baking Show together from 2015 to 2017.
They former couple share an 11 year old daughter Ilaria, who they adopted in 2008.
When filing for divorce, Nia requested joint legal and physical custody.
Previously speaking about her wedding to Ian and how it inspired her to write My Big Fat Greek Wedding, Nia told Hollywood.com, she said: “Everything was overblown. My family was furious with me because I refused to buy a wedding dress.
“I thought it was a ridiculous expense and I wanted to wear my mum’s dress. My dad said, ‘You are going to embarrass us in front of the Greek community.”
