Prince Harry said the royals are “like the family she never had”, after his relatives welcomed Meghan Markle into their Sandringham home over Christmas.
Meghan’s half-brother, Thomas Markle Jr, said the former Suits star has a family who “smothered her with love”.
Speaking to the Mail Online, Thomas Jr said Prince Harry’s statement “will have hurt” their father.
“She’s had a really good family,” he said. “We were as close as we could be, as tight as we could be, that’s what we were.”
He continued: “We’d get together on Christmases, on holidays, on birthdays, on Thanksgivings… It was always somewhere, even though we lived in different parts of the city [Los Angeles] – we still all got together.
“Obviously, she had a family. She was very privileged. She got everything she ever wanted. We did the best that we could in terms of getting together for holidays and whatnot.”

Thomas Jr said their father ensured Meghan had everything she needed to be successful, and that he will be “hurt” by Prince Harry’s claim.
“My father will be extremely hurt, actually,” he added.
Earlier this week, Prince William’s brother spoke to the BBC about his fiancée’s first Christmas with the royals.
He said: “I think we’ve got one of the biggest families that I know of, and every family is complex as well.
“She’s done an absolutely amazing job. She’s getting in there and it’s the family I suppose that she’s never had.”
Meghan’s half-sister Samantha Grant also spoke out about the comments, taking to social media to say the actress “had a very large family who were always there with her and for her”.
