The Busted singer has three kids with his wife Emma Willis, daughters Isabella and Trixie, and son Ace.

Matt revealed that his children were the reason he was so quick to take the role of The Hunter in the stage show The Christmasaurus.

Speaking exclusively to OK! Online about the show, he said: “I read my kids this book last year before Christmas and we had the best time. It was a really special time for us.

“Before we go to bed we read something or we listen to some music every night. For a long period of time I had to make up a story every night. That’s a lot of pressure.”

The stage show is an adaptation of the book written by Matt’s close friend, McFly star Tom Fletcher who is also starring in the show.

Matt was full of praise for Tom’s writing, saying that it took the pressure off him to make up his own tales.

“They don’t like me reading books and every night it was like ‘make one up, make one up’,” he added.

“So I’d just go ‘once upon time there was a mouse called Micheal’. And I had to start talking and they were f**king terrible but they loved them. But then I ran out of ideas.”

He added that his bedtime stories once took a rather sinister turn adding: “I told them a story about a matchbox one night and there was all these matches in a matchbox and they all wanted to get free but when they got free it was actually death. It was morbid.

“So when The Christmasaurus came out I was like ‘Yes, brilliant.’ We started reading that every night and we had the best time. They loved it. The Hunter was my favourite character in the book, I’m always drawn to the baddie and the villain.

“As soon as Tom asked me [to be in the play], I said ‘my kids are going to lose their minds that I’m being the hunter’ and annoyingly be there every night.”

The Christmasaurus Live runs to December 28 at the Eventim Apollo. The Christmasaurus Musical Edition book is out now.
