The former star of Eastenders has opened up about the horrors she witnessed as a child and how her mum, Jenny Tomlin, and dad were both broken people.
Martine McCutcheon, 41, revealed in an incredibly honest interview the effects drink and drugs had her father, who she describes as a “handsome and charismatic” man.
The Loose Women star said: “My father was very handsome and charismatic. Beautiful women fell at his feet. Mum was really attractive, but couldn’t understand his fascination with her.
“The bottom line was that they were both broken. He could sense she had had difficult times and wanted to fix her, but it became a dysfunctional, obsessive love.”
However, despite caring deeply for his wife, Martine’s dad had demons that were worsened by his addictions.
She said: “My father also had drink and drug problems – he would see red and do horrific things.”

Her most horrific admission is a recollection of how much her mum was physically abused and how he threatened to kill Martine when he was high on drugs.
Speaking to The Guardian, Martine said: “Mum suffered domestic abuse at his hands and, when I was a baby, he threatened to drop me over a balcony when he was high.”
Even though her mum was under massive pressure at home, Martine remembers how hard she worked to “balance” things out.
“We always had a house full of people, with music playing. Our family were the friends we chose from our ethnically diverse neighbourhood in east London.
“There was a real sense of community and people looked after each other.”
As Martine grew up and became a household name, she never forgot how much her mother did for her, and still to this day respects her more than anyone else.
“Mum has a lot of qualities I really admire in a woman”, she said. “She is warm and loving, but also really tough. She has needed to be.”
