Kem Cetinay is known as the smiley, happy reality star from the recent series of Love Island, but Amber Davies’ boyfriend has bravely shed some light on his troubles with depression and anxiety.
Opening up about the difficult time, on World Mental Health Day, Kem revealed how his battle started when his mother, Figen, became ill when he was just 10 years old.
“I started becoming obsessive about my mum, I wouldn’t leave her side,” confessed the reality star.
“My confidence dropped, I couldn’t get on trains. It was the first time I’d had a panic attack, I didn’t know what it was” he continued.
Sadly, Kem’s mental health issues became worse as he entered his teens, when an operation to remove his tonsils went wrong and he was left with kidney failure, aged 14.
His mum Figen, who was interviewed alongside her famous son by The Sun, revealed that “overnight he became a recluse” as he stopped going to school and his panic attacks got worse.

“After the operation — I’d lost so much weight — my football started going downhill so I lost all my confidence. I thought everyone was looking at me and it just escalated.
“I refused to go out to public places”, admitted Kem.
The rapper confessed that he left lessons because of his panic attacks, with the missing classes all piling up and leading to horrific exam results.
Following his battles with anxiety Kem suffered from depression, which he said robbed him of a normal life.
But, Kem credits one lady with “turning” his life around, after he worked his way through eight different therapists.
It’s safe to say that the Love Island star is now on cloud nine and loving life, after meeting girlfriend Amber in this year’s season of the reality show.
The rapper managed to land a popular spin-off show with BFF Chris Hughes, and the pair have even launched a music career.
