His family confirmed the news in a statement to PA, explaining he had a “long-term battle with a progressive lung condition”.
And following the death of the much-loved TV presenter, Twitter fans have expressed their surprise at discovering that Keith’s nephew is star of People Just Do Nothing, Hugo Chegwin.
Along with his work on the popular British sitcom as DJ Beats, Hugo is also a very successful composer.

Major stars who Hugo has worked with on songs include Sam Smith, Pixie Lott, Tinie Tempah and Leona Lewis.
He’s also credited as a songwriter on Emeli Sandé’s smash hit Next To Me, which won two accolades at the 2013 Ivor Novello awards for songwriting and composing.

Clearly proud of his nephew for the major musical achievement, Keith wrote: “My nephew Hugo with his two Novello’s – Wey Hey !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”, alongside a picture of Hugo holding up his trophies.
The statement from Keith’s family announcing his death read: “We are heartbroken to share the news that Keith Chegwin sadly passed away following a long-term battle with a progressive lung condition, idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, which rapidly worsened towards the end of this year.
“Keith died peacefully at home shortly after midnight on the 11th of December. His wife Maria, his daughter Rose and his son Ted were by his side.
