Ladan Bosso has said he left El-Kanemi Warriors following the expiration of his contract with the club at the end of last season, dismissing reports that he sacked.
The former Flying Eagles coach left the Nigeria Professional Football League side on Wednesday after two years in the saddle.
Bosso led El-Kanemi to the sixth position in the league with 56 points from 38 matches.
Bosso, who has also coached Abia Warriors, told our correspondent on the telephone on Thursday that he had no regrets leaving Maiduguri club.
He insisted that he did not fail at the club.
“I was not sacked as was reported. We could not agree on terms for a new contract, so I had to leave. I thank the club for having me in charge of the team in the last two seasons,” he said.
“The club didn’t do badly while I was in charge, although we had higher targets than we were able to achieve. I believe it was progress for us because we finished higher last season than the season before it. But it is all for the good of the club and I wish them the best next season.
“For now, I don’t know where I am heading for, because there are no new offers yet.”
El-Kanemi also sacked 15 players on Wednesday. The club said they retained 25 players.
According to the club’s spokesman, Anthony Obaseki, the club decided to fire the 15 players because they were discovered not to have performed well last season.
Obaseki said seven of the players were asked to look for new clubs while the other eight were returned to their parent clubs after termination of their loan contracts.
The seven players, whose contracts were terminated, are Mohammed Hussaini, Aguda John, Dele Olorundare, Japhet Daniel, Judikael Agbougu, Abba Abubakar Aliyu and Aminu Kundila.
Some of those retained are Samuel Matthias, Olawale Isiaka, Bello Kofarmata, Emmanuel Ajia, Hussaini Bata and George Michael.
