If you start showing the signs of a heart attack, the very first thing you should do is call 999 for an ambulance.
You should also consider taking an aspirin tablet (if you aren’t allergic to it), if it’s easily available.
Slowly chew an adult-sized 300mg tablet while you’re waiting for the ambulance.
The aspirin is used to thin the blood, and restore the heart;s blood supply.
“If you’re alone and experience any of the above heart attack symptoms, call 999 right away,” said medical website Healthline.
“Take aspirin if you have it on hand.
“Then, unlock your front door and lie down near it, so emergency services workers can easily find you.”
You can lower your risk of a heart attack by making some small lifestyle changes, according to the NHS.
Eating a healthy, balanced diet is one of the best ways to prevent having a heart attack.
If you eat a high-fat diet, your arteries could become harder, and fatty plaques may form in your blood vessels.
Plaques could cause a blood clot, which may lead to myocardial infarction.
Having persistent high blood pressure puts your arteries and heart under extra strain, which also increases your risk of a heart attack.
Lower your blood pressure by limiting the amount of alcohol in your diet, and by regularly exercising.
