Coach of Nigeria National League champions Go Round Ngozi Elechi has said his team are ready for the Premier League which kicks off on Sunday.
The Omoku (Port Harcourt) club will make their debut in the Nigerian topflight after finishing second behind Heartland in the Southern Conference of the league last season.
But Go Round won the NNL Super 4 on Tuesday at the Agege Stadium in Lagos after beating Heartland 2-1. Kwara United finished third.
Elechi told our correspondent that his team should not be underrated, adding that team work remains their strength.
He said the task before the team was to remain in the Premier League at the end of the season.
“It is a great honour to win the NNL despite finishing second in our conference last season. Heartland finished ahead of us but we were able to beat them to the league title at the end of the day,” Elechi said.
“We are ready for the Premier League and we want to give a good account of ourselves at the end of the season.
“We know that the topflight is tough to play in but the NNL too is not an easier league. We may not have big-name players but the players we have secured promotion for us.
“We have brought in some new players to fortify the team, but they are from other clubs in the NNL, not the Premier League. We have a team that is strong and has blended well together. Our players are hungry and want to make a mark in the Premier League.”
