After claiming that serial love rat Ashley Cole was already in a relationship when he began dating ex-wife Cheryl, Jermaine Pennant has made another shock revelation.
The 35-year-old football ace, who is hotly tipped to appear on the upcoming series of Celebrity Big Brother, has now finally apologised to ex-girlfriend Jennifer Metcalfe after his dog murdered her cat.
Hollyoaks star Jennifer, also 35, has been left completely in the dark about the massacre since as Jermaine feared she would have left him.
In his new book, Mental: Bad Behaviour, Ugly Truths and the Beautiful Game, Jermaine writes: “[Jennifer] moved in with me … the only problem was I had a dog and she had two cats.
“Mine was a Japanese dog, an Akita called Shadow. He was a very scary guy! She had two white cats, really expensive Persians, special house cats.
“Whenever we went away for the weekend, my mate Sam would come round and check on them. One day, we were away and I got a call from Sam in a bit of a state.

“He said, ‘Shadow’s killed the cat. I mean, J, he’s absolutely massacred it. The back door onto the patio, it wasn’t locked, and he must’ve forced it open. Shadow must have caught one of the cats on the landing – there’s blood everywhere.
“Sam took a picture of the scene on his phone and sent it to me. There was blood all over the carpets, the wall, on the bannister. The Persian cat was very dead. I can’t imagine the fear of the poor thing. It was a really horrendous, distressing scene.
“I was feeling sick and panicking like mad. Myself and Sam came up with this story that the cat had escaped. We had to organise a professional carpet cleaner and a painter and decorator, because we needed to completely repaint the walls and get new wallpaper. They were a write-off – it was the full works.

“I had to tell Jennifer we couldn’t go home straight away, and had to ask Sam to bury the dead cat far away and very deep. When we got home, Jennifer was upset for ages. She went around all the neighbourhood, saying, ‘Have you seen this cat? Then at work, she printed off posters with a picture of the cat, offering a reward.
“There I was, driving into training, and seeing posters all round Liverpool appealing for a white cat. It was the most mortifying experience of my life.”
Finally reaching out to Jennifer about the ordeal, the extract finishes with Jermaine saying: “So, look Jennifer, if you’re reading this, then I’m really, truly sorry, but if I’d told you then we’d have broken up.”
