Former Falcons coach Edwin Okon has tipped the women’s national team to win the WAFU Women’s Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast from February 10 to 24.
The Falcons are in Group B along with hosts Ivory Coast, Ghana, Burkina Faso and Niger.
The Nigeria Football Federation released a 35-man list of players for the competition with Rivers Angels dominating the list with six players.
Okon said, “What is important is for the team to do well at competitions. The players selected for the competition have the experience having played in the various leagues in the country.
“It doesn’t matter in which level of the league they play. The target of any team is to win competitions and I believe that the Falcons can do well at the WAFU Cup.”
The coach however denied reports of him making comments on the employment of new Falcons coach Thomas Dennerby.
The Swede’s appointment by the NFF had generated mixed reactions but the Rivers Angels coach said he did not make comments on Dennerby’s employment as reported in the media.
