Express.co.uk readers can vote in our poll on whether Mr Farage should be part of Brexit talks with the EU. It comes after Mr Trump insisted it was a “mistake” not to involve the Brexit Party leader in negotiations. The US President said Mr Farage has a “lot to offer” and is someone he likes “a lot”.
Mr Trump told the Sunday Times: “He is a very smart person. They won’t bring him in. Think how well they would do if they did. They just haven’t figured that out yet.”
Mr Farage’s Brexit Party topped a new Opinium poll on who voters would back in a general election with 26 percent.
The brand new party also swept the board in last month’s European elections and they will send 29 MEPs to Brussels.
Speaking ahead his three-day state visit which kicks off tomorrow, Mr Trump advised Prime Minister Theresa May’s replacement to abandon talks with the EU unless the bloc offers a better deal by October 31.
Mr Trump said: “They gotta get it done. They got to get it done. They have got to get the deal closed, right?
“If they don’t get what they want, I would walk away. Yes, I would walk away.
“If you don’t get the deal you want, if you don’t get a fair deal, then you walk away.”
The US leader added that the UK should withhold the £39 billion divorce bill.
He said: “If I were them, I wouldn’t pay 50 billion dollars. That is a big number. I wouldn’t pay 50 billion dollars. That is me. I would not pay – that is a tremendous number.”
Mr Trump also pledged to “go all out” to strike a free trade deal between the UK and the US as soon as Britain leaves the EU.
