The heartbroken wife of Ewan McGregor has spoken out for the first time since her husband moved on from their 22 year marriage with his Fargo co-star Mary Elizabeth Winstead.
Ewan, 46, gave a toe-curling speech at the Golden Globes last week during which he thanked both Eve Mavrakis and his current girlfriend for their support when picking up the Best Actor gong in a Limited Series category for Fargo.
Ewan started dating Mary, 33, last year, shortly after he split from Eve, 51.
Speaking to the star-studded crowd in Los Angeles, he said: “I want to take a moment to say thank you to Eve. Who always stood by me for 22 years. To my four children, Clara, Ester, Jamyan and Anouk, I love you.
But in a cringe-inducing moment, he added: “There would be no Ray without Mary Elizabeth Winstead. So thank you very much.”
When approached by reporters and asked about the speech near her home in LA, his wife told Daily Mail: “No, I did not like his speech.”
And when probed further about her reasons, she added: “For the same reasons you are here asking me about it. I am not going to say any more.”
Eve and Ewan tied the knot in 1995 but split up seven months ago, and his romance with Mary was revealed soon afterwards.
A source added to the paper: “Ewan and Eve were a very affectionate and loving couple, but it all changed over the summer. It was very abrupt. He came back from Fargo and it was clear he and Mary had become close. He insisted that nothing physical happened between them and Eve accepted that.
“They tried to make their marriage work after he told her, but about a month later it was clear Ewan had made his decision.”
However, he has previously gushed about his wife, saying in one interview: “I knew right then that I really wanted to be with her and I knew I wanted to be with her in a different way to all the other many, many, many women I had been with up until that point. And I wasn’t wrong. I made the right choice.”
In a family photo posted to Instagram on New Year’s Day, Eve and her daughter made a point that their family no longer appeared to include Ewan, captioning the picture their “little family of women”.
