Citizens across Europe – including the UK if it is still a member of the EU – will head to the polls on May 23. After initially storming into third place in the polls with 15 percent of the vote before they had even officially launched, the Brexit Party is now in first place with 27 percent in YouGov polling. Led by former UKIP leader Nigel Farage, the party hopes to quell the idea of a second Brexit referendum by topping the polls and calling for an immediate withdrawal from the EU.

Launching the party last month, Mr Farage controversially vowed to “put the fear of god” into MPs who her said are obstructing Brexit and betraying the 17.4 million people who voted to leave the EU.

The party is expected to focus on a single message that the UK must leave the EU straight away.

Detailed policies will be left until after the EU elections, Mr Farage indicated.

Mr Farage is standing in South East England, while other high-profile names include the businessman Richard Tice, former Tory minister Ann Widdecombe, broadcaster Claire Fox, and journalist Annunziata Rees-Mogg, a former Tory election candidate and sister of Jacob Rees-Mogg.
