The English Premier League Managers Association (LMA) on Sunday congratulated Arsenal manager, Arsène Wenger on surpassing the record for the number of matches managed in the Premier English top flight football league.

Wenger hit his 811th match for Arsenal against West Bromwich Albion as the Gunners drew 1-1 in today’s EPL away fixtures.

The Frenchman’s record achievement is yet another example of his professionalism and dedication to football management and to his club.

LMA Chairman Howard Wilkinson said in a tribute to Wenger: “On behalf of the League Managers Association and all our members, I would like to congratulate Arsène on his record breaking achievement. 811 Premier League games, and more to come, is testimony to all he has brought to football in England and to Arsenal FC. There are few certainties in football, but I’m sure his record will last forever.”

LMA Committee member Sir Alex Ferguson, who previously held the record, on his own said: “I applaud Arsène on surpassing my record of managing 810 Premier League games. It is a fantastic milestone which has required the highest standards of dedication and professional management to achieve. I doubt his record, whatever it turns out to be, will ever be beaten.

“Congratulations on a truly remarkable career and great service to football and Arsenal FC.”

Wenger is the longest serving manager in England and has twice been recognized by his peers as the LMA Manager of the Year.

He led the Gunners on a run of 19 successive Champions League campaigns, a record only bettered by Real Madrid.

The Gunner boss, who arrived in North London in 1996, has won three Premier League titles, including the historic unbeaten ‘Invincibles’ season of 2003/04, seven FA Cup titles and seven Community Shield for the Arsenal.
