Former Nigeria Envoy to Canada, Ambassador Dare Bejide, has vowed to return both governance and control of the Peoples Democratic Party PDP) in Ekiti State to the people of the state, if elected as governor.
Bejide, a governorship aspirant on the platform of the party for 2018 governorship polls in the state said the PDP in Ekiti presently has been allegedly hijacked from its leaders, members and supporters by Governor Ayodele Fayose.
He accused Governor Fayose of constituting himself as the “governor-general” in the state who single-handedly determines what goes on in both the government and solely runs the affairs of PDP in the state.
He spoke yesterday at a familiarisation visit to the party leaders and members in Ise/Orun and Emure local government areas of the state.
The former Secretary to the State Government who stressed the need for definition of governor’s role in the running of the party and the government promised to run an open door policy that will accommodate the contribution of all in critical decision making if given the opportunity to serve.
He said: “When we served in the previous PDP government in the state, we operated an open door policy. But the present government under the
leadership of governor Fayose is one man show, because he is all in all. Only him determines who becomes what at every level of government in the state with due consultation from leaders and members of the party.
“Then people from all the 16 local governments across the state got one appointive position or the order. Employments were also generated for the people who were carried along in the scheme of things by the government.
“When we started this party, there was no acrimony and disaffection but unity and love were displayed by leaders and members of the party. But what is happening now pointed to the fact that the founding fathers of party are being relegated to background. Those that we accepted into the party and nurture to attain position are now trying to split and factionalize the party because of their selfish interest.
“ God and you people have approved my candidature. Somebody seated in Afao Ekiti and said he has endorsed somebody as the sole candidate of the party. He should not be taken serious. It is God that enthrones.
“ It is you people that will elect your local government excos,
council Chairman yourselves and make recommendation for the appointment of commissioner in our government because the coming government as led by me will indeed return power to the people as the PDP slogan connotes”. He also promised to promote agriculture, small and medium scale enterprises, traditional institutions as well pay workers’ salaries as and when due.
The PDP Chairman in Ise / Orun local government, Hon, Niyi Ekundayo who noted that Chief Bejide is not strange to the council and said he has done a lot for them in the local government in times past, charged him to do more when elected as governor.
He said the aspirant with intimidating curriculum vitae and as one of funding fathers of the party in the state has what it takes to lead the state.
Another leader of the party in the local government, Pa Mathew Ojo who said the antecedents of the governorship aspirant speak volume of what is made up promised that the people of the council support to win the ticket.
In his remarks, a leader of the party in Emure local government, Pa Stephen Ogundoro said the large turnout of the people at the inauguration of the headquarters office of Bejide Campaign Organization attested to the fact that he was loved by the people.
He called on party members to start going about to announce the arrival of the new PDP government in the state to be headed by Ambassador Bejide.
Hon. Azeez Maja who is the PDP Chairman in the council assured Chief Bejide of their unalloyed support for his ambition, saying “We always stand by whoever we have made up our minds to follow”.
