During an interview in The Sunday Times, the US President claimed it was not too late for Britain to “sue” the EU and give the UK more “ammunition” in future Brexit talks. Trump, who announced his second term campaign this week, also said he wants to secure a free trade deal between the UK and the US. The President promised the free trade deal would take place within months of Brexit to make up for lost trade with the EU.
He commented: “If they don’t get what they want I would walk away.
If you don’t get the deal you want, if you don’t get a fair deal, then you walk away.
“If I were them I wouldn’t pay $ 50billion (£39billion).
“I would not pay, that is a tremendous number”.

During the interview, Trump also called on the Government to stop delaying Brexit and said Boris Johnson would make an “excellent” Prime Minister.
The President added Brexit Party leader Nigel Farage should join EU negotiations.
He said: “I like Nigel a lot. He has a lot to offer.
“He is a very smart person. They won’t bring him in.
“Think how well they would do if they did. They just haven’t figured that out yet.”
It comes as the President is due to meet the Queen on Monday during a presidential visit to London.
He is due to meet other senior royals including Prince Charles, Prince William, the Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry.
He will also attend a state banquet and hold discussions with Prime Minister Theresa May.
On Wednesday he will travel to Portsmouth to attend an event marking D-Day before continuing to France.
