Former drug and alcohol addict Danniella Westbrook told fans that she had relapsed recently, when candidly discussing her struggle on social media.
The 44-year-old actress confessed that she had made a “mistake” adding that she had “run back [to] what I know,” prompting some to speculate that she had opted to take drugs again.
However, now her best friend Christopher Maloney has revealed the truth behind her relapse claims, explaining that it was alcohol she’d turned back to, and opening up about what had triggered it.
“She was supposed to be staying sober and it was the drink that she relapsed on,” the former X Factor star exclusively told OK! Online.
“She’s not in a very good place at the moment, she’s had some bad news from the doctors.
“I just feel so sorry for her. I’m not too sure how she’s coping, but from what she’s telling me it sounds quite serious.
“It’s gonna be a long few weeks going in and out of hospital.”
While Christopher didn’t divulge details of Danniella’s health news, he added that it “knocked her at first” and triggered her to drink again.
“For a lot of people that get bad news, the first thing they’re gonna do is have a drink,” he added.
“If they’ve got a form of addiction obviously they’re gonna fall back into that. ”
While Celebrity Big Brother star Christopher confirmed that the actress is currently sober, and has had no urge to drink again since, he said was “sad” for her, as she had very few loved ones she could turn to.
“I’m very sad at the moment because she doesn’t really have anyone,” he said.”It’s literally just myself and my partner and a couple of other close friends that she has.
“She’s got no family around her. She’s got no-one.”
OK! Online have contacted Danniella’s representative for comment.
Danniella’s alcohol relapse comes after she admitted in June that she had been using drugs for the past four years, and even tried to take her own life.
Despite her struggles, Danniella insisted she had “come through the other side” of her addictions.
