The National Vice Chairman of the All Progressive Congress (APC) South-South zone, Ntufam Hilliard Etta has said that the crisis in the party was normal and will fizzle out with time.
Speaking to DAILY POST, Etta said “You cannot have human organization without conflict; there is conflict everywhere, there is conflict in the NUJ, NBA; anywhere you have human organization, there must be conflict, there is conflict in the PDP, Labour Party and conflict in APC.
“We know that we have issue in Kogi State where we have set up a committee to look into that, we know we some issues in Kano State where a committee was set up to deal with the issue. Most of the conflicts, the party is on top of them.”
On none conduct of local government elections in Cross River State Ntufam directed the Party in Cross River to institute a matter in court challenging the Cross River State Independent Electoral Commission (CROSIEC) for allegedly refusing to conduct local government elections despite a subsisting court judgment from the High Court in Calabar.
He said it was illegal for Heads of Local Government Administration (HOLGA), to function in the stead of elected local government chairmen and other elected officials.
He it was high time the APC in the state stopped fold its arms and allowed the PDP-led administration to toy with the future of the people of the state, especially those at the grassroots level.
Eta observed that the Supreme Court had already ruled that local government areas should be led by elected leaders as provided by the 1999 constitution, as amended.
Few months back CROSIEC had announced that it would conduct local government elections last June, but postponed the elections on the basis that INEC was embarking on the continuous voter registration exercise.
Although the INEC has since ended the registration exercise in July, the CROSIEC has not announced a new date.
Interestingly, on 2019, he said “it is a little bit far; the only thing I can tell you is that the APC in South South Zone is growing, we went into 2015 election and came out into power at the National level, we had only one senator, as I speak to you today, we have six Senators and the same can be said of the House of Reps and certainly House of Assembly, there is growth and progress in the APC in the South South.
“As regards the preparation for 2019, our performance is going to be the yardstick to measure our preparedness for 2019.”
On the issue of party exco accepting positions and contracts, he said “The State is in the process of setting up that committee to investigate those who have compromised by working hand in groves with the state government, yet are members of our party”.
While rating of Governor Ben Ayade, he said “there is nothing to grade; there is nothing to evaluate, if there is something on ground to evaluate, one would have been able to say, one or two things about his performance, there is complete absence of governance in Cross River State, so there is nothing to grade as far as we are concerned, we are just counting the days to vote him out of office.”
