Coronation Street actor, Malcolm Hebden has revealed he had a massive heart attack and almost died at the end of last year.
The Norris Cole star – who recently took an extended leave of absence from the ITV soap – has revealed more details of the “mystery illness” he had been suffering from, confessing that he had a “silent heart attack” which almost killed him.
In a lengthy statement thanking the NHS on its 70th birthday, Malcolm told the Blackpool Gazette: “Most of December I was in an induced coma, in the care of these brilliant, wonderful people at the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit.
“Fortunately I didn’t realise how bad it was; I was dying. The cardiac team simply saved my life.
“From getting into that ambulance at home, I don’t really remember much at all,” he said.
“It was almost like I thought it was happening to Norris Cole, like a soap opera about the NHS.”

The Last Of The Summer Wine actor described how he had suffered “at least one heart attack,” leaving him to be taken to an emergency hospital before being moved to Blackpool Victoria, where he was operated on in a “ground-breaking” procedure.
“The heart attack tore a hole in my heart, they operated and took a chance,” he added.
While Malcolm explained that he is now discharged from hospital after receiving post operative care and physiotherapy, he revealed that he still has to take “handfuls of pills” as he continues his recovery.
Malcom’s news comes after a shocking fake news story circulated earlier this year, claiming that he had died, sending Corrie fans into a frenzy.
The incorrect news of his death got so out of hand that Coronation Street’s Sally Ann Matthews stepped in to clarify Malcolm’s condition.
Sally, who plays Jenny Bradley, told fans that the information was “thankfully not” true.
