Coronation Street star Melanie Hughes, who also starred in Cold Feet and won Miss Wales in 1997, died without warning in October 2017.
Melanie left behind her “devastated” husband Rick and two children – three-year-old Kaden and stepchild, Taylor, 16.
Months later, an inquest has revealed the actress passed away after struggling with alcohol addiction and postnatal depression. She is said to have been drinking a bottle of vodka a day during her battle, The Sun reports.
The inquest in Ruthin, Denbighshire, heard she was found collapsed on her bed at home on 8 October, and taken to the Countess of Chester Hospital where she died.
Last year Mrs Hughes had tragically suffered a miscarriage and was distressed over her grandmother’s death, and her mother being taken ill.
“Melanie really was in a terrible state and there were times when even you couldn’t help her,” substance misuse worker Kelly Wilson had told the inquest.

Mr Hughes had said in a statement that he felt his wife had been let down by agencies supposed to help her.
However, a post-mortem showed she only had a small amount of alcohol in her system at the time of her passing.
Coroner Elizabeth Dudley-Jones concluded that Melanie’s death was a “direct result of Fatty Liver Disease which was caused as a result of her addiction to alcohol”.
Mel had moved on from acting – after some unnamed small parts within Corrie and Cold Feet, amongst others – and had been working at the energy conservation firm Kingspan in Greenfield for over 15 years.
Mel and Rick got together 10 years ago, saying they had known each other “forever”.
Speaking about his wife, Rick said: “Mel was so kindhearted and had time for absolutely everyone. We are absolutely devastated at the loss of such a wonderful spirit and we will never forget her.”
Speaking about their toddler son, Rick added: “Kaden doted on his mummy. He is asking where mummy is. We had a holiday of a lifetime two months ago in Disney World Florida and my family and I am so glad we did as that has so many pictures with so many memories.”
