Liverpool winger, Sadio Mane, has been named Champions League player of the week.
Recall that the Senegalese international was shortlisted for the award by UEFA on Thursday.
Mane beat off competition from Real Madrid’s Marcelo (29 per cent), Christian Eriksen of Tottenham Hotspur (11 per cent) and Manchester City midfielder Ilkay Gundogan (four per cent) to land the prize.
The 25-year-old, who scooped 57 per cent of the public votes, was named for the award following his highly impressive showings for Liverpool in the Champions League against Porto.
Liverpool took to their official Twitter account on Friday to celebrate their forward, posting photos of his celebrations on the night with the caption: “Mane named Champions League Player of the Week Congratulations, Sadio! “
