The injection is one of the best current ways to fight arthritis, according to Pro-Health Clinic director Oliver Eaton.
The treatment, which uses ozone gas to stimulate cartilage repair, has been used in the US and Germany.
Medical ozone is naturally anti-bacterial, so it’s one of the safest injections on offer in modern medicine, Eaton said.
Patients reported feeling the healing oxygen gas spread across their leg during the injection, he added.
“Ozone injections have been recognised in the medical community for about 10 years now,” Eaton told Express.co.uk.
“It uses all the science, but it’s not well heard of in the UK.
“I discovered the treatment through my own ailments, and I didn’t want painkillers – only natural treatments.”
The body absorbs the gas injection as a liquid, and has also been used to treat cancers and autoimmune conditions.
It works by delivering oxygen directly to cartilage, as ozone is made up entirely of the molecule.
Oxygen is needed for repair, and oxygen is delivered around the body through blood. Seeing as cartilage doesn’t have it’s own blood supply, it doesn’t heal itself very well. That’s where the ozone comes into play.
“It’s very healing and helps to reduce, and even repair, symptoms,” said Eaton.
The treatment is primarily used to treat knee arthritis.
Other reported benefits of ozone therapy includes preventing sick, improves brain function and improves circulation.
About 10 million people in the UK have arthritis, according to NHS Choices.
The two most common types of the condition are osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis.
