Ant McPartlin reunited with an old friend to celebrate his proud milestone of being six months sober.

Declan Donnelly’s co-host, who is being replaced by Holly Willoughby on I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! this year, shared a photo posted by his long-term friend of 20 years Simon Hargreaves after they met up for a celebratory lunch.

Alongside the black and white selfie, Simon wrote: “Long overdue catch up with my buddy of 20+ years for lunch this week. 6 months sober, annoyingly healthy looking, and happier than I’ve seen him in years.

“Immensely proud of this lad for his strength and determination to face up to his issues and get help @antanddec.”

Ant then retweeted the post to his and Dec’s 6.71 million Twitter followers.

He wrote: “Thanks pal. Really appreciate it. Lovely seeing you too. It was really long overdue. #weloveagoodlunch Hope you’re using your Jcrew tote bag! A.”

The tweet was soon flooded with congratulatory messages from Ant’s loyal fans, explaining how proud they all are.

“Proud of you Ant. Really happy you’re doing well x,” one person replied, as another said: “Looking so well Ant and happy.”

Ant took an extended break from the spotlight earlier this year following a troublesome few months.

He entered rehab for a second time following an incident which saw his Mini collide with a vehicle in West London.

When I’m A Celebrity returns to screens in November, Ant won’t be joining presenting partner Dec for the series and will see This Morning’s Holly Willoughby temporarily fill his shoes instead.

Holly said Ant is happy for her to be taking over this year, telling the Daily Mail: “He’s happy that I’m looking after it until he gets back. It does help that we all know each other.”

Holly also opened up on how it will be “weird” for her to present alongside somebody other than Phillip, who she also hosts Dancing On Ice with.
