Atlanta ’96 Olympic Games gold medallist Chioma Ajunwa has been promoted to the rank of Assistant Commissioner of Police.
The Lagos State Command of the Nigeria Police Force confirmed the promotion of the former long jumper to The PUNCH on Wednesday.
The 47-year-old defied the odds to become the first and only athlete in Nigeria to win an individual Olympic gold.
Former Super Falcons player Ajunwa is also the first black African woman to win an Olympic gold in a field event. She is currently serving at the Police Training School, Ikeja, Lagos.
Confirming her promotion, the Police Public Relations in the state, SP Chike Oti, said, “The former gold medalist has been promoted to the rank of ACP. She is with the PTS.”
